Nylon Conveyor Rollers Hard-Wearing, Quiet, Non-Marking
Nylon conveyor rollers with a hard-wearing non-marking shell for indoor, noise-sensitive and moderate-load duty. Built to your dimensions and bracket centres.
A nylon roller uses a nylon shell instead of steel. It is harder than HDPE and UHMWPE, which gives it better load capacity for a polymer roll, and it runs quietly because the shell damps vibration rather than transmitting it. It is also non-marking, which matters wherever the product cannot be stained.
The limitation is moisture. Nylon absorbs water and grows dimensionally, so a nylon roll in a wet or wash-down environment can bind at the bearing seat. It belongs indoors, in dry service, where quiet running and product safety are the requirements.
What You Are Actually Getting
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Shell | Nylon tube over a steel shaft |
| Shaft | 45# steel, equivalent to DIN C45 / JIS S45C / AISI 1045 |
| Bearing | Deep-groove ball, sealed. HRB or ZWZ standard, SKF or FAG on specification |
| Environment | Dry indoor service - nylon absorbs moisture and grows dimensionally in wet duty |
| Duty | Noise-sensitive sites, non-marking, moderate load |
| Mounting | Built to the same bracket centres as a steel roll at that belt width |
| Alternatives | UHMWPE where the service is wet or sticky; polyurethane where abrasion is the driver |
Polymer Shell Comparison
Nylon, HDPE, UHMWPE and polyurethane overlap enough that suppliers often quote whichever is in stock. This is the honest comparison.
| Shell | Hardness | Moisture | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nylon | Hardest of the polymers | Absorbs water, grows | Indoor, quiet, non-marking, moderate load |
| HDPE | Softer, tougher | Good resistance | Wash-down, impact, lowest polymer cost |
| UHMWPE | Softer than nylon, very low friction | Good resistance | Sticky material, high wear, release |
| Polyurethane | Hard, high abrasion resistance | Good resistance | Abrasive fines, quiet running |
| Carbon steel | Hardest shell overall | Rusts unless coated | Load, temperature, general bulk handling |
Hardness and moisture behaviour decide more than price. A nylon roll in a wash-down plant is a repeat failure waiting to happen.
What Nylon Buys and What It Costs
Quiet running
The shell damps vibration instead of transmitting it to the structure. In an enclosed gallery or a plant near a boundary, this is often the whole reason for the order.
Non-marking
Nylon will not leave a rust or steel mark on the product. In paper, textile and food-adjacent plants that is a quality requirement, not a preference.
Load capacity
Better than HDPE or UHMWPE at the same diameter, worse than steel. On a heavily loaded station the diameter has to go up to compensate.
Moisture growth
The one failure mode to design around. In wet duty, use UHMWPE or HDPE instead of nylon - the cost difference is small compared with a seized roll.
Static
Polymer shells do not dissipate static as steel does. In explosive-dust areas, raise it before the order.
Where Nylon Rollers Fit
- Indoor assembly and packaging lines — Quiet, non-marking, dry. The natural application.
- Paper and print — No rust mark and no steel transfer onto the product.
- Light bulk handling — Where the load is modest and noise is the constraint - grain in an enclosed plant, for example.

Nylon Conveyor Rollers FAQ
Nylon or UHMWPE?
Nylon where the duty is dry, quiet and non-marking. UHMWPE where the material sticks or the service is wet - nylon absorbs moisture and grows, which is the one thing that reliably ruins it.
Can I use nylon rollers outdoors?
Not in sustained wet or humid service. Occasional damp is survivable; wash-down, rain or high humidity is not, and UHMWPE is the correct substitution.
Do nylon rollers carry the same load as steel?
No. A polymer shell at the same diameter carries less than a steel tube, so on a loaded station the diameter or the roll count has to go up. Tell us the load and we will size it rather than swap like for like.
Are nylon rollers the same as plastic rollers?
Plastic is the generic term covering nylon, HDPE, UHMWPE and polyurethane. They behave differently, so specify the material rather than accepting the generic name.
How Orders Run
T/T — 40% deposit with order, 60% balance before shipment. L/C at sight accepted for container orders.
Quoted per order. The schedule depends on the drawing, the quantity and the material — we state a firm date with the quotation instead of a catalogue figure.
15 months from B/L date against manufacturing defects. Claims supported by photos and batch number.
Packing, minimum order and Incoterms are set out in full on the quotation page.
